HP Notebook - 17-by2075cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a year ago, I had my laptop's (17-by2075cl) motherboard go bad. One could not be found at that time so I parted it, I did keep the SSD though with all info that I had on it.

I just bought another new reburbished 17-by2075cl. If I put my old SSD in it, would it work?

Hi:

It should work fine, but if Windows asks to be activated, you will need to change the product key to the W10 key in your new notebook's BIOS.

Windows may ask to be activated because it will detect a major hardware change (new motherboard).

You can install the free Showkey Plus software which will show you the W10 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

ShowKeyPlus - Microsoft Store Apps

Would winkeyfinder work as well?

Thanks for your help!

You're very welcome.

I've never used it before, but if the software advertises that it can retrieve the product key that is encrypted in the BIOS then it should work fine.
