Hi- I am getting the error that my hard disk drive is not connected. Have no idea what happened. It worked fine, powered it off, turned it on 2 days later and got the erro. I sent it in as I only had it for 5 months and they claimed it was a customer error and wouldn’t fix it and told me it would cost $800 to fix- the cost of the entire computer- so I said no and bought a new desktop. I would like to fix this as, like I said it’s almost brand new, and I did nothing to it. I use it for work, that’s it. Excel, and five9 thru a vpn on the cloud for work so it’s safe. I checked the hard drive test in bios and it’s saying there is no hard drive installed, and I tried removing it to reseat it but that didn’t help. I see the computer has an SDD but how do I know if it has an hdd too and if I buy a new hard drive- will that help? I have no idea what hard drive to buy. Can someone help?

Hi@Corinne38,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with HP PCs - Hard disk error with your HP Pavilion X360 14 Convertible PC 14-Dy1000 RCT.  Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.

1.    Turn off the Unit.

2.    Disconnect the AC adapter.

3.    Remove any discs from the disc drive.

4.    Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

5.    Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

6.    Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

7.    Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

Step 2

Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit

Step3

The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice  and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit

Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.

After the above  troubleshooting steps if the unit  turns on

I tried all of those options, and before I sent it in to be worked on with HP, HP sent me something to input in my computer to try and load a new hard drive or operating system, not sure which- that didn’t work either , nothing helped. When I look online, other people say this happened to them too with HP but when I sent it in under my warranty, they claimed it was user induced. They also never told me what the issue actually was either. It was not I assure you. I powered down, kept it on my desk and turned it on to this issue 2 days later. I had this computer for 5 months and due to the fact that I had a warranty and they could have replaced it, I’ll never purchase HP again- as they were so unwilling to help. Charging me the cost of the computer to repair something that is so clearly an issue with this brand of laptop? I was a faithful HP customer for many years, never had issues and the first and only time I have to use my warranty, they deny it. That’s not great customer service. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
