My laptop recently suddenly stopped working. Now, when I start it, it can't find the hard disk.

I have tried running the hard drive checks (quick and extensive) but the hard drive is not found (error message: "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly")

How do I get it fixed? Whom do I need to contact? The laptop is still under warranty.

For all practical purposes, hard disks can not be repaired.  While it IS possible to disassemble and rebuild them in "clean room" environments, the typical cost for having this done starts at $1000 USD and goes up. So, for what typically amounts to $100 worth of laptop drive (or less), the cost is not justifiable.

What will most likely happen, in your case, is that the drive would be replaced by HP, they would re-image the PC, and return it to you.  That means everything on the drive will be lost.


Since this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about getting your drive replaced.  You will most likely have to send the entire PC to HP, as they do not send out drives.
