I have an HP Notebook - 15-f111dx (ENERGY STAR). Recently, after a windows upgrade the computer locked up. I had to force a manual shut down. When I tried to restart the computer Windows would not load. I did diagnostic tests and found that during both the Hard Drive Long DST and Hard Drive Short DST tests the Primary HDD Bay was showing a failure. If I recall from my hard drive partitions, this is the bay that houses Windows. I plan to install a new hard drive and reinstall windows. However, prior to opening the maching, I was wondering if anyone knew what size and connection type the hard drive is to ease ordering a new hard drive. Also, I had upgraded to Windows 10 on this machine, however, I cannot remember what the original install version of Windows came with the computer. I think it was Windows 7 Home that was the original software install. Any help from the community would be appreciated.
This is my first post to the community, so I apologize if I did not post in the correct forum. I felt my question could have been in two forums, but I thought that this would be the best place to start.
Thank you,
Matt Pigott

Hi, Matt:
You can install any 2.5" x 7.00 mm SATA notebook hard drive or solid state drive up to 2 TB.
Here is the link to the product specs for your notebook.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04497708
It originally came with W8.1, but since you upgraded to W10, you can reinstall W10 by creating installation media using the Media creation tool at the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Also, here is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure...
