If you're encountering the "Hard Disk Error 3F0 Boot Device Not Found" message, here are several steps you can take to address the issue:

Restore BIOS Default Settings

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the power button to start the computer, then repeatedly press the f10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press f9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press f10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select "Yes" and press Enter when prompted with "Exit Saving Changes."
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Update the BIOS

To update the BIOS, refer to the relevant HP support documents based on your PC type:

Perform Hard Drive Tests

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly; when the menu is displayed, press f2.
  3. On the main menu, select Symptom Tests and initiate a hard drive test.
  4. Select "Hard disk/SSD drive issue" and perform either a Quick Test or Extensive Test based on the results.

Reinstall Windows

Reinstall Windows through the Windows Recovery Environment (f11) or using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool:

  • Use the steps provided in HP PCs - Reset the computer for a system reset.
  • Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool for Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation issues.
