Hard drive short DST check: Failed

I did a system quick test and my hard drive short DST check is marked FAILED. What does this mean? Please help. Can I retrieve my files/photos?

You will most likely have to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

It is unlikely that you will be able to recover any data from your hard drive but there is no way to even begin to discuss what your options are unless I know what type of drive has failed...2.5" mechanical hard drive or a M.2 SATA or NVMe SSD.
