I have a elderly friend of the family that her husband passed away and he was the only user on the laptop. No one knows the password. How can I wipe out the user and get it where she could use the computer. Not sure what OS it came out with Windows 8 when new could have 10 on it now.

Use Media Creation Tool to create bootable USB flash drive to do a clean installation of Windows 10. 

There are many Youtube videos.
