It turns black when i press power escape refresh it does not say chrome os missinv its just black and when i go back into chrome os its normal

It sounds like your Chromebook isn’t fully entering recovery mode. Normally, Esc + Refresh + Power should show a recovery screen, not just go black. A few things you can try:

  • Make sure you’re holding all three keys at the same time until the recovery screen appears.

  • If it still only goes black, perform a hard reset by holding Refresh + Power for about 10 seconds, then try again.

  • Check if your device firmware is up to date in Chrome OS settings, since outdated firmware can cause recovery shortcut issues.

  • If recovery mode never shows, it may be a hardware or firmware problem — contacting HP support or using the official Chromebook Recovery Utility on another device might be the next step
