HP Spectre x360 Laptop - 15-eb0100nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, the fan of my laptop spectre is constantly on. If I disconnect the charger the battery is empty within an hour. What can I do about this. I have already performed several tests and all passed.

Hi @Frost8956,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Spectre x360 laptop is experiencing an issue with power management or battery performance. Here are several steps you can try to address this issue.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  • Ensure that your laptop is set to Balanced power mode or adjust the settings to reduce the performance demands when on battery.
  • Check for Battery Saver mode and enable it when the laptop is running on battery to extend battery life.

Update Battery Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
  • Expand the Batteries section and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Select Update driver and follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
  • Restart your laptop after updating.

Calibrate Your Battery:

  • Discharge your battery completely until the laptop shuts off by itself.
  • Fully charge it to 100% without interruption.
  • This can help recalibrate the battery and may resolve any reporting issues.

Check for Overheating:

  • If the fan is constantly on, it might indicate overheating. Ensure that the laptop is on a hard, flat surface, and that air vents are not blocked.
  • Try running a temperature monitoring app like HWMonitor to check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU. If temperatures are unusually high, consider cleaning the fan or using a cooling pad.

Perform a System Reset:

  • If none of the above steps work, you can try performing a System Reset to restore your laptop to its original settings (note: this will remove your files, so back them up first).
  • To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Reset this PC.

Check the Power Plan:

  • In Control Panel > Power Options, set your laptop to a more power-efficient plan like Power Saver while on battery.

Update BIOS:

  • Sometimes, a BIOS update can fix issues with battery charging and power management. Visit HP’s official support page, search for your laptop model, and download the latest BIOS update if available.

Battery Health Check:

  • If your battery is old or faulty, it may not hold a charge properly. You can check the battery's health by using tools like Battery Report in Windows.
  • Open Command Prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport to generate a report that gives details about your battery's health.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
