HP laptop, switches on all ok but can’t enter PW and there’s no cursor.  Control/alt/delete takes me to pw login but cannot enter pw. Tried all the usual switch on/off etc, tapping esc, fb + f5…  I’ve looked online couldn’t find answer, can you please help?

@Wallflower-5_5, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I know how frustrating it is when your laptop powers on but leaves you stuck at the login screen—especially with no cursor in sight. Let’s try to gently nudge it back to life:

Try This First:
Hold down the Power button for 10–15 seconds until it completely shuts off. Wait a moment, then power it back on.

If the cursor’s still missing:
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del, and once you're at the login screen, tap Tab a few times to try navigating to the password field.
Then try typing your password blindly and hit Enter—sometimes it's there, just invisible.

Next step:
Restart the laptop and immediately tap Esc repeatedly to open the Startup Menu. Then press F2 to run the System Test. Let’s rule out hardware issues.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
