Hello everyone in the group, I'm using a 2021 HP Victus and I'm having trouble with my GPU getting stuck at 210 MHz when using the latest Nvidia drivers. This problem has persisted for 4 years, and I've tried various fixes, but only Nvidia driver version 512.96 works normally, requiring a system reset for the card to perform optimally. After researching, I found that many people have this problem, including those with other brands. It seems to be due to a faulty BIOS or EC (Electronic Control Panel). I'm currently using the latest Nvidia driver version 596.49, which is mandatory for playing FH6, and I'm experiencing the same issue. My other graphics card-related tasks work normally. Has anyone else in the group experienced a similar problem? BIOS F.26
The fault lies in the EC chip on the HP Victus motherboard having poorly programmed (or outdated) firmware. When NVIDIA's new driver asks, "Hey motherboard, how many watts of power am I allowed to use right now?", the HP EC chip either doesn't understand the language or experiences a bottleneck, resulting in it returning garbage data.
This is where your "752 Watts" warning comes into play. HP's EC system has a communication error, sending a garbage reading of "752W" back to the NVIDIA driver. Immediately, NVIDIA's self-defense mechanism activates: "752W is overload, you'll burn out the machine!" -> It triggers the BD PROCHOT flag, crashing the voltage and locking the GPU at 210MHz.

Hi @namourobos
Thank you for sharing such a detailed explanation of the issue I can tell you’ve put a lot of time and effort into troubleshooting this over the years, and I completely understand how it must feel to still be dealing with it.
You’re absolutely right that this behaviour has been reported by other users as well, and it often points to how the embedded controller (EC) firmware communicates with newer NVIDIA drivers.
We appreciate you clarifying that you’re not using any overclocking tools and that the issue persists across BIOS updates. Your observation about the EC chip returning incorrect power readings aligns with what many users have discussed in the NVIDIA forums.
For reference, here’s the official NVIDIA community thread where similar cases are being reported: Click here
While driver version 512.96 works as expected, newer drivers are required for games other games.
At this point, the best path forward is continuing to monitor updates from both NVIDIA and HP.
Kindly provide the serial number of the unit along with the Windows version and build number via private message. This will allow us to verify whether the system is running the latest chipset drivers and also assist you in obtaining the most up‑to‑date GPU driver available from the support website. or you check with that. https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Hi @namourobos,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
HP does not provide support for overclocking or undervolting on Victus or any other consumer laptops. The GPU clock issue you’re seeing is not something HP can help resolve through BIOS mods or third‑party tools, because those fall under unsupported overclocking practices.
HP does not support or recommend undervolting, and it may not be possible on many newer HP models due to firmware restrictions.
let me know if you need assistance with anything else.
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi

I already explained it clearly in the post; I'm not using any overclocking software. This problem is due to a faulty EC chip. I've had this issue since 2021, and no BIOS updates have fixed it. Other users have experienced the same problem and provided feedback, but they haven't been able to resolve it either.
