HP pavilion power 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.
The problem that I had did not quite relate to technical support, but I really hope that you can help me! On August 21, 2017, I bought a laptop “HP pavilion power 15 - cb006ur” on credit. For more than a year, this laptop has always been with me, used both in my work and at home. I have been using HP devices for a long time - I bought my first laptop in 2008, it was an HP dv6960 model. For all the time of use with laptops there were no problems - for this you are a special thanks to you.
October 15, 2018 an unpleasant event happened - my laptop was stolen. I immediately went to the police - now they are searching. I am also trying to find it through online auctions and thrift stores. The police say that there is practically no chance to find a laptop, the people who kidnapped him are professionals, and most likely will sell the laptop on the black market, and since laptops do not have unique numbers, such as IMEI, they will not be found after the sale. I remembered that when I just bought a laptop, it was not installed Windows operating system, only the BIOS. And when I installed Windows and HP Support Assistant, the program automatically determined the serial number of my laptop. I had a hope - once the laptop's serial number is automatically detected even after reinstalling the operating system, it means that when installing HP Support Assistant, those who stole the laptop or those who bought it, the serial number will appear on the network.
So now I’m asking you - I don’t know if there is such a technical possibility, but if it is, I’m asking you to report whether HP Support Assistant was running from my stolen laptop and the network data to which the laptop was connected ( Like this is called a MAC address?). In order to confirm that the laptop was bought by me, I attach a photo of the receipt and the box from the laptop. If necessary, I can ask the police for confirmation that the laptop has been stolen. Thank you in advance for your reply, and I really hope for help in finding my laptop, since I will not have the opportunity to buy a new one for a long time.

Respectfully, Ivan

Sorry, but this is only a community forum staffed mostly by volunteers and we can do nothing to track or recover missing property. In addition, there is no way to track a lost PC unless you had installed special tracking software.

I think THIS article honestly portrays the situation:  https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-track-stolen-laptops-with-a-mac-or-ip-address

Read the information in Step 2.

Sorry, but the only REAL way to locate a laptop is if you have something embedded in it that allows you to find it -- and products like Lojack for Laptops provide that feature.

I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP
