How can I activate my laptop using product key, reformatted it

You're mixing terms ...

You format a drive, and that creates a filesystem on it. It does NOT install an OS in the process.

What you did was reformat the drive and reinstall Win7 -- and since you most likely did NOT use an HP OEM version of Win7, you are in serious trouble, now!

Why? Because you need a Product Key to activate Win7, and the one that came with your PC only works with HP OEM versions.

That key will NOT work with other versions of Win7.

So, to activate it NOW, you will have to PURCHASE a key that matches the version you installed.

HP does not provide additional product keys, as they come preloaded on the PCs.
