The Windows 7 license key is on a label attached to bottom of laptop. On some machines it is inside the hard drive cover.

Go to settings app >> Windows Update and security>> activation and select activate now.
If Windows is unable to activate your pc then sign in with Microsoft account and try again.
If still have activation problem go with activation troubleshooter.
If you want to migrate Windows10 license to another pc you need to sign in with Microsoft account in target device and select I changed hardware on this device recently under troubleshooter and follow on screen instructions.
I hope this will work for you.

How long has the latest upgrade to Windows 10 been installed? Do you have an internet connection? I have seen some people report it taking several days to a week to reactivate after new install. It should connect to Microsoft servers and reactivate using the hardware id of the laptop stored there.

I called Microsoft and stayed on the phone with them for 2 hours and let the tech guy remote take over my computer. His end solution for me was to contact HP and try to get the original windows 7 product key code off the motherboard.
However I have found possible solution other than that I think might work I just haven't tried it yet as i havent had time to but possibly downloading the windows 10 anniversary update iso.....will allow me to activate using a my Microsoft account which has no devices listed. I will reply with the results unless someone has further advice for the idea. Possibly I'm wasting my time with this idk.
Thanks again
