Please be patient with me, this is my first post. It is for a computer I bought brand new, first laptop ever, in like 2010-11. I KNOW! Long time ago, bear with me. So I bought this laptop after so much looking, learning, etc... It wasn't an impulse buy. I LOVED IT! It was the Touch Smart TM2t-1000. It had all brand new software for school and I was so excited. It ended up having a simple issue... I think it was the webcam needed something physical installed that was missed at the factory.

Anyways, HP made me send it back to the company to be fixed. They had my brand new laptop for MONTHS! I hadn't even explored the majority of the computer programs, it had been so new and had issues right away. When I got it back it didn't work properly. I forget the specific details, it's been so long, but I spent weeks going back and forth with the company. The matter was escalated with customer service. I didn't want to send it back again, at this point they had said they would not fix the model or something. They offered me the garbage replacement, trying to persuade me how great it was because it had Beats speakers (back when they were new.). I didn't want this other laptop. It had the bare minimum software, none that I needed. It wasn't touch screen, it hadn't had all the art software I needed. It was such a horrible, horrible experience. I was so incredibly let down.

Anyways... All my disgust at the customer service and whatnot aside, I genuinely loved the original laptop. I tried taking it to geek squad, since I don't know much about computer mechanics, and they said the hard drive was likely corrupted. I don't think they even really tried diagnosing it. They just tried recovering my few docs and photos to an external hard drive.

I literally have not bought a new laptop since. I feel like, as old as it is, I want to find out what work was done on it when HP had it. I want to fix it and try, if I can, to update the operating system and get it functional. I know how corny it sounds, but this laptop is not the plastic-y junk in abundance now. It was top of the line, brand-spanking-new (with a price tag to match) and I never even got to open most of the programs and explore the software.

Maybe it is a waste of time, but I was hoping someone could tell me how I can get records from HP of the repairs they did when they had my laptop for repairs? I figured it might afford me some insight as well as a starting point. Thank you, genuinely, anyone who takes the time to respond. I need a laptop for education purposes and no longer have the resources to buy a brand new one.

Welcome to the HP Community --

HP Devices from 2010 have, many of them, been sent to the Retirement farm.

That means that all the public data, including drivers, user manuals, and specifications have been removed from the HP public website support for the particular device.

Is your HP Product “vintage? (Ten years of age or older)

Typically, HP stops supporting consumer products after ten years. Read the policy and find out if your HP device is on the list. “EOL”

If the model is not retired, there might be website support for it.

You will need to know the exact model number to check.

HP Support - (Old) Repair Records

This is a guess - HP is not going to talk to us about this subject...

All in-house repair records remain the property of HP.

Repair records of any age - and more specifically those from years / decades past - are likely archived.

In the case of older records, the data has perhaps been taken off line, that is, backed up and removed from the server banks.

Regardless, HP will not dig through their archives for ancient repair data for less than a specific legal reason to do so.

"I want" is not enough of a reason.

Check your emails -- ask your email provider for records if your personal data does not go back that far.  Email providers might be less reticent about giving you access to your old email.  If HP sent you anything useful in the context of any email message, you might find something there.

Check your papers -- if you tend to keep old papers around (and many people do so), the paper work sent back and forth in one box or another might be useful.
