If your HP laptop originally came with Windows, you don’t need to purchase a new key. Most HP systems have a digital license or an OEM key stored in the BIOS, so Windows will activate automatically after reinstall.

You can try viewing the key with one of these commands:

Get-CimInstance -ClassName SoftwareLicensingService | Select-Object -ExpandProperty OA3xOriginalProductKey

or

wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

If neither shows a key, your device is using a digital license, which automatically activates once the laptop connects to the internet. No manual key is required.
