Elitebook has Cloud Recovery Client under Software-RestoreCD which is used to make Windows installation media. There is Elitebook 840 G1,G2,G3,G4-which do you have?
Enter it here to get to your driver/sotware page:

The G1 driver/software page doesn't have the software to make a Restore CD. I assume it shipped with Windows 7 or Windows 8? You may be able to call HP to order Restore Media. IF you took the free upgrade to Windows 10 microsoft offers free the Download Tool to make installation media.
How exactly did you accidentally erase the OS?That is usually done by booting from a utilty and formatting the drive. Are you sure you erased it instead of hard drive falure? The G1 is old enough for drive failure.
