Hi @GRAMPAGOLF75,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Factory resetting an HP ENVY laptop will restore it to its original state, erasing all personal data and installed applications. This can be useful for troubleshooting issues or preparing the laptop for a new user. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Backup Your Data

Before performing a factory reset, ensure that you back up any important data, as this process will erase all files, applications, and settings on your laptop.

2. Factory Reset Using Windows Settings

If your HP ENVY laptop is running Windows 10 or Windows 11, you can use the built-in reset feature:

  • Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  • Click on "Update & Security" (Windows 10) or "System" (Windows 11).
  • Select "Recovery" from the left-hand menu.
  • Under the "Reset this PC" section, click the "Get started" button.
  • You will be presented with two options: "Keep my files" and "Remove everything."
    • Keep my files: This option will remove apps and settings but keep your personal files.
    • Remove everything: This option will remove all your personal files, apps, and settings.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. You may be asked if you want to clean the drives too.
    • Just remove my files: A quicker option.
    • Remove files and clean the drive: More secure and thorough, useful if you are giving away or selling your laptop.
  • Click "Next" and then "Reset" to begin the process.
  • Your laptop will restart and the reset process will begin. This can take some time.

3. Factory Reset Using HP Recovery Manager

If your HP ENVY laptop has HP Recovery Manager installed, you can use it to perform a factory reset:

Access HP Recovery Manager:

  • Restart your laptop and press F11 repeatedly during startup to enter the recovery environment.Alternatively, you can search for "HP Recovery Manager" in the Start menu if your system is still operational.

Select System Recovery:

  • In the Recovery Manager, select "System Recovery."Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the reset.

Choose Factory Reset:

  • Choose the option to perform a factory reset and follow the prompts. The laptop will restart, and the recovery process will begin.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
