Hi I'm helping a friend reset his computer to factory default. He accepted the Windows 10 Upgrade but now there is no space to continue Windows Updates. He then tried to remove folders but this messed up the computer. Then he tried reinstalling Win 8.1 64 bit but wiped out the recovery partition. I tried going through the recovery manager through using f11 as well as through the OS. Nothing is working.
How can I rebuild this machine to factory default? I don't need to save anything for him. Is there external media that I can obtain to do this?
Thanks

Hi:
Since the recovery partition was wiped out, the F11 recovery process won't work.
The only suggestion I can offer, would be to clean install W10.
During the process, I would delete all partitions on the drive, and just leave one big partiton to reinstall Windows on.
Then there should be room for future upgrades and a couple of programs and files.
To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool. Make the 64 bit installation media.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option,' and W10 will install and will automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...
- Select Download tool now, and select Run.
- If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
- On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.
- Select which media you want to use:
- USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

You can also take a look at this tutorial that will provide the opportunity to increase the drive space a little more by compressing the drive...

Hi
Try
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You should be able to make a bootable DVD/USB and then goto the HP area for all the missing drivers etc.
