Okay so I have a HP pavilion laptop touch screen from 2016 with no SD care or whatever it is called (I don’t have the card someone took it). It’s not mine I was asked to factory restart it but I can’t I’ve dose every thing I’ve gotten to the screen where I have the option to factory restart but it’s grayed out and won’t let me click it. I just need to factory restart it so it’s like brand new help.

Hi @Elleeestar,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that. The factory reset option on your HP Pavilion is greyed out because the recovery partition or HP recovery environment is missing or disabled.

Here’s a clear step-by-step guide to get your laptop back to factory condition:

1.   Check BIOS for HP Sure Recover:

If HP Sure Recover is enabled, it can block the Windows reset option.

Turn on laptop → press F10 repeatedly → Advanced tab → Sure Recover

Clear the HP Sure Recover checkbox

Go to the Main tab → select Save Changes and Exit

2. Try Windows Recovery Environment:

Use the built-in Windows reset if the recovery partition is intact.

Restart laptop → press F11 repeatedly

On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot

Select Reset this PC

Choose Remove everything for a full factory reset

3. Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool:

If factory reset is unavailable, create a recovery USB drive.

On another Windows PC, download HP Cloud Recovery Tool from HP Support

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4511095-4511141-16

Insert a USB flash drive (32GB recommended)

Run the tool → select your HP Pavilion model → create recovery media

Plug the USB into the Pavilion → boot from USB → follow prompts to reinstall Windows and drivers

4.  Reinstall Windows Manually:

If the recovery partition and the HP tool are unavailable, install Windows directly.

Download Windows 10/11 ISO from Microsoft

Use Rufus to create a bootable USB

Boot Pavilion from USB → choose Custom Install

Delete existing partitions → install fresh Windows

After installation, download drivers from the HP Support site. https://support.hp.com/in-en

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
