Hi I have an ho laptop model hp 17-by1062st. I have been trying to get into my laptop for a few days and can't. I was getting an internal battery error message for a while. Normally I'll just click enter and it would continue. Now I'm getting an automatic repair screen that pops up it doesn't do anything. I bought a new battery thinking that would fix the problem, but after installing new battery and powering on laptop I didn't get the battery message this time just back to the screen about automatic repair.  I restarted many of times, I tried the system restore and wouldn't allow said something about being offline. I also tried to reset and it wouldn't allow me. I plan on getting  a new but really need in this laptop I have a lot of digital assets that I can't retrieve without getting in here to transfer them. Is there anyway to bypass this and get to my home screen?

Hi @jamjr8791,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation. Here are a few steps you can try to get out of the automatic repair loop and access your laptop.

Hard Restart: Sometimes, powering off the laptop completely and then turning it back on can break the loop. Ensure you power it off completely by holding down the power button for several seconds until it shuts down.

Boot into Safe Mode: Try booting into Safe Mode. This can help bypass certain startup issues. To do this:

  • Power on your laptop and immediately start pressing the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.

Use Command Prompt for Repair:

  • From the Automatic Repair screen, select "Advanced options" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt".
  • In the Command Prompt window, you can try running some commands to repair your system, such as chkdsk /f /r to check and repair disk errors.

System Restore from Command Prompt:

  • If you have previously created a restore point, you can try restoring your system to that point using Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type rstrui.exe and press Enter. This will open the System Restore wizard.

Repair using Installation Media:

  • If you have a Windows installation USB or DVD, you can use it to boot your laptop and access repair options.
  • Insert the installation media and boot from it. Select "Repair your computer" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" to access repair tools like System Restore or Startup Repair.

Reset PC: As a last resort, if nothing else works and you don't mind losing your installed applications, you can try resetting your PC. This option will remove all apps and settings but can potentially fix serious system issues.

  • From the Automatic Repair screen, select "Advanced options" > "Troubleshoot" > "Reset this PC".

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for getting back to me  I appreciate it. I have tried the hard reset multiple times with no luck. I also yried the command prompt no luck either

I'm getting windows cannot think disk checking on this volume because it is write protected. I ran the system tests and I'm the hard drive test failed. After running tests now instead of the internal battery message it's showing hard drive failure message. Then it went to a blue screen saying unmountable boot volume. After a bunch more hard resets the hard drive message went away and when I restart I'm getting a boot error message. Seems like it's just going from one thing to the next. I don't have the USB drive to try the last solution you sent for me to try. Any further suggestions on what to do now? I did also try the reset that wouldn't work neither.
