Hi @Leader2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve the issue of a flashing caps lock light on your HP laptop, which can indicate a BIOS or hardware issue, you can try reinstalling the BIOS using a bootable USB flash drive. Here’s how you can create a bootable flash drive and install the BIOS.
Prepare a Bootable USB Flash Drive for BIOS Recovery
Requirements:
- A working computer with internet access.
- A USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1: Download the BIOS Update
- On a working computer, visit the official HP support website.
- Search for your laptop model by entering the product name or serial number.
- Navigate to the Drivers section and download the latest BIOS update for your model.
- Ensure that you download the BIOS specific to your exact laptop model.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive
HP provides a tool called the HP BIOS Update Utility for creating a bootable USB drive to install BIOS. Follow these steps:
- Insert your USB flash drive into the computer.
- Run the BIOS update file that you downloaded earlier.
- Select Create a recovery USB flash drive, and follow the on-screen instructions to create a bootable BIOS recovery USB.
- The tool will format the USB drive and copy the necessary BIOS files onto it.
Step 3: Perform the BIOS Recovery on Your HP Laptop
Once the bootable flash drive is ready, follow these steps to install the BIOS on the malfunctioning HP laptop:
- Turn off the laptop if it's powered on.
- Insert the USB flash drive with the BIOS update into one of the USB ports of the laptop.
- Turn on the laptop and immediately press the Windows key + B simultaneously, while also holding down the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
- You may hear beeping sounds, and the screen may remain blank during this process.
- Release the keys, and the laptop should automatically access the BIOS recovery from the USB drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the BIOS.
Note:
- If the Caps Lock Light is Flashing in a Specific Pattern, check the blink codes on HP’s website to identify the exact problem (e.g., hardware failure vs BIOS issue).
- If the recovery process fails, try a different USB flash drive or re-download the BIOS file.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
