Hi guys, I’ve been wanting to reset my password on my old HP laptop since I forgot the password and am unable to get in. Is it possible I can safely reset the password to get back into the laptop? I want to make sure my photos aren’t in danger from it since they’re from 2009 to around 2017 so it’s very important I don’t lose these photos there aren’t any additional copies of them digitally so if they’re gone I cannot get them back.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Hi @alomah3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Yes, you can safely reset the password to get back into your HP laptop. I am sorry to hear that you are unable to login T your HP laptop .Here are a few methods you can try to login.

Use a Microsoft Account

  • If your laptop uses a Microsoft account, you can reset the password online:
  • Open an internet browser on another device and navigate to the Microsoft password reset page.
  • Select "I forgot my password," then follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
Once the password is reset, use the new password to log into your laptop.

Reset Local Account Password with a Password Reset Disk

  • If you have created a password reset disk previously, use it to reset your password:
  • Start your laptop and enter the wrong password until you get the reset option.
  • Insert the password reset disk or USB drive, then click "Reset password."
  • Follow the instructions in the Password Reset Wizard to create a new password.

Access Through Another Administrative Account

  • If another account on the laptop has administrative rights, use it to change the password:
  • Log into the account with administrator rights.
  • Open the Control Panel and navigate to "User Accounts."
  • Select "Manage another account" and choose the account you want to reset.
  • Click "Change the password" and follow the prompts to set a new password.

Reset the Computer

  • If no other method works, you may need to reset your computer. Be cautious as this will erase all data on the laptop:
  • On the sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key, click the power icon, and then select Restart.
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • Select "Remove everything" to completely reset the device.

Resetting Your HP Laptop Password

  • If your laptop uses a Microsoft account, you can reset the password online:
  • Open an internet browser on another device and navigate to the Microsoft password reset page.
  • Select "I forgot my password," then follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
  • Once the password is reset, use the new password to log into your laptop.

I hope this helps
