I have a Pavilion G7. Came with Windows 8.1 when purchased. Upgraded to Windows 10 with the free upgrade shortly after I got it. Ran great for years. Recently something corrupted Windows (probably me) so after trying many fixes to repair Windows 10 that didn't work, I used the HP recovery console to reinstall Windows from the HP recovery partition. Little did I know at the time, the HP recovery utility restored Windows 8.1, not Windows 10. During the reinstall process Windows 10 (?) created some sort of backup of my personal files before reinstalling Windows 8.1 (there was an option something like "save my files", which I used). The backup was saved to an external USB drive, but now that Windows 10 is reinstalled and working normally, I now want to restore the files that were supposedly backuped during the Windows 8.1 install, but I can't find how to do this. If anyone can tell me how to do this, or perhaps point me to a youtube video or online article I would be grateful.
