How to default BIOS OS Boot Manager Options to SSD

Hi All,

I have added new SSD into my laptop and also migrated OS from current HDD to this SSD.

I have verified and tested that from F9 I am able to cleanly boot into this new SSD disk with amazing speed and no issues.

Now I wanted to set this SSD as default in boot options where currently it is showing both HDD and SSd. But this OS Boot Manager sub menu does not allow me to change the sequence.

It is showing both and by default it is booting to HDD OS, unless I manually interrupt using Esc and F9.

As of now both HDD and SSD are available in my laptop with OS.

Could anyone please suggest how can I make this SSD as default boot?

Hey @vamshi_se,

To use the SSD as a boot drive, it will need to be in the primary hard drive slot on the notebook, meaning you will have to use it to replace the hard drive that is currently installed in the notebook. You will also have to do a clean install of Windows on the drive for everything to work properly.

I don't know HOW you did the OS migration to the SDD, but I have done this numerous times using Macrium Reflect (MR) and it has worked without problems every time.  I have never once needed to do a clean-install after the migration.

What I recommend is the following:

1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
2) Connect the new drive to the PC using a USB drive adapter
3) Run MR and choose the option: "Backup --> Image Selected Disks" to clone the current drive onto the new drive.
4) Shutdown the PC when done
5) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.

You should boot from the new drive without any problems.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I have fixed this issue by cleaning/formating my HDD as SSD is ready with full OS setup.

Here are the steps I followed before posting this issue here and after posting this.

1) Inserted SSD into one of the available M.2 SATA port in my laptop.

2) Using EaseUS Backup and recovery tool I have migrated my windows 10 OS from HDD to SSD.

3) Using BIOS options (Esc + F9) I have made sure that, I am able to boot my system from SSD without HDD. This is where I have posted the question here, on how to remove HDD from the list and default to SSD boot.

4) Removed HDD from laptop and made sure I am able to boot cleanly from SSD without depending on HDD.

5) Attaching this HDD using external HDD adapter (USB 3.0 ) to laptop and formatted the same. Also removed all the partitions.

6) Then inserted the same clean HDD into my laptop along with existing SSD.

7) Now I am able to boot directly into SSD as there is no EFI/bootable OS available on HDD.

Now it is showing only 1 option even if I go to BIOS Esc + F9.

My issue is solved.
