HP Pavillion g4
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My HP Laptop Hard Drive Short DST test failed. I reinstalled Windows from a recovery drive i made from my other laptop, and now it's working! This computer has been out of use since 2015 because of this. It would get stuck after power up, try and self recover for a while and then the screen would go blank.  After reading a post on here, I just wrote this computer off 5 years ago. Just decided yesterday to do a little digging to find out what the meaning of the failure code was and now im posting from said laptop.  Aslo i re-ran the Diagnostic for the short DST Test and it passed. Hope this helps!

Re-installing Windows on a failing hard drive is pointless.

Once a drive starts to show indications of failing, it is only a matter of time until it completely fails and is useless.

That could be six months; it could be tomorrow!

The best thing to do right now is back off anything you need to save to USB stick and plan to replace the failing drive.
