Hello HP support,

I had to preform a complete system recovery using the HP Recovery Manager. Before I did the system recovery I did a HP Recovery Manager back up of my files. I used my DVD drive and it took three disks to do the backup. The Recovery Manager instructed me when to insert disk number two and continued with the backup and also instructed me when to insert disk number three and continued with the backup. The complete system recovery went well and my HP Laptop is up and running excellent.

I tried to follow the instruction at this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04688331 to restore the backup, but was not successful. I inserted disk number one and found the folder Backup_xxxx_xx_xx_xxxxxx. which is the folder with the file> Restore.exe < I saved the folder Backup_xxxx_xx_xx_xxxxxx to my computer and opened/ran the file Restore.exe . Recovery Manager opened, I clicked next, clicked ‘help’, verified the files, clicked next and Figure 6 opened but ask me to specify the location where to put the restored backup, which I did. Figure 7 opened and program with progress bar seemed to run properly and after the 100% was reached it stopped and ask for Disk number 2 which I inserted, and the program did nothing. I thought that it would pick up and continue with disk 2 just as it did when I did the backup. So now I am stumped. How do I get this three disk backup recovery back into my computer?? If you can give me step by step instructions, please use a for Dummies, format. Thank you, Mr. Hughes

That's NOT how recovery works -- you don't save stuff manually to your PC.

You boot from the first disk.  It reformates and erases your entire drive and recreates the partitions.  Then, it starts repopulating those partitions.  This continues with the second and third disk.

When it is done, the PC will reboot and you will be put back into initial setup mode.

Thank you for your reply, I copied the Backup-xxxx_xx_xx_xxxx folder from disk number1,2 and 3 to my computer and then was able to restore the files using the ' Restore.exe' that was on the backup disk number 1. All is good now. Thank you,

Good to hear it's working now.
