Hi @Sipho03,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To install a new Windows operating system on your HP laptop, you'll need to follow these steps. Here's a detailed guide on how to do this.
Obtain Windows Installation Media
- USB Drive: You can create a bootable USB drive with the Windows 11 installation files. You'll need a USB drive with at least 8GB of storage.
- Windows Installation Disc: If you already have a Windows 11 installation disc, make sure your laptop has a CD/DVD drive.
Create a Bootable USB Drive (if using USB)
If you don’t have a Windows 11 installation disc, you can create a bootable USB drive using the Windows Media Creation Tool:
- Download the Media Creation Tool:
- On another working computer, go to the Windows 11 download page and download the Media Creation Tool.
- Create the Installation Media:
- Run the Media Creation Tool and follow the prompts to create a bootable USB drive.
Boot from the Installation Media
- Insert the USB Drive or Disc:
- Insert the bootable USB drive or Windows installation disc into your HP laptop.
- Access the Boot Menu:
- Turn on the laptop and immediately press the ESC key repeatedly (about once every second) until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F9 to open the Boot Device Options.
- Select your USB drive or CD/DVD drive from the list and press Enter.
Install Windows 11
- Start the Installation Process:
- Your laptop should now boot from the installation media. You’ll see a Windows logo, and the Windows Setup process will begin.
- Follow the On-Screen Instructions:
- Select your language, time, and keyboard preferences, then click "Next."
- Click "Install Now."
- Enter the Product Key:
- If prompted, enter your Windows 11 product key. If you don't have one, you can skip this step and activate Windows later.
- Select Custom Installation:
- Choose "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)" to perform a clean installation.
- Select the Drive:
- Select the partition where you want to install Windows. If you’re replacing an existing Windows installation, you may want to delete the existing partitions (be cautious as this will erase all data) and install on the unallocated space.
- Complete the Installation:
- Follow the remaining prompts to complete the installation. The laptop will restart several times during this process.
Set Up Windows 11
- After installation is complete, you'll be prompted to go through the initial Windows setup (choosing your region, setting up a user account, etc.).
- Once the setup is finished, Windows 11 will boot to the desktop.

Install Drivers and Updates
- Connect to the Internet:
- Make sure your laptop is connected to the internet.
- Update Windows:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates to ensure your system has the latest drivers and updates.
- Install HP Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website to download and install any necessary drivers for your specific laptop model.
Restore Files and Software
- If you backed up your data before the installation, you can now restore your files and reinstall your applications.
This process should allow you to install Windows 11 on your HP laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
