My laptop got lost/stolen on Shanghai airport. I initiated the windows "find my device" and lock. But if the device is not online Microsoft can not lock it.

Is there an option with HP  model and serial number for locatization and lock the divice?

Hello @Joe_Nell

No, HP cannot locate your device. Reach to the airport authorities, they have thousands of cameras there at the airport but consider it lost permanently.

There is now way to locate lost or stolen computer unless you have a hidden GPS transmitter inside the machine which works 24/7 and has an independent power supply. Otherwise, the potential thief would just wipe out the hard disk drive [reinstall the operating system], replace via software means certain codes and there will be no way for you to find it.

What you can do - encrypt (encode) your most important data, the entire disk drive. This will prevent or make it extremely hard for the potential theif to access your data

High level business class computers ffrom HP have additional security features which you can consider to protect your data from unathorized access >> http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-9339ENW.pdf
