notebook

My daughter's (detachable) notebook has come up with the screen asking to "Enter The Recovery Key".  There is a link to be used on another device to obtain it, but it just comes up with my details.

Link is "http://windows.microsoft.com/recoverykey".  It gives a key ID and other detals if nneeded.  Any help greatly received.  Not sure the model!!

Hello @Parsley191

Welcome to the HP Support forum.

This is BitLocker (Device Encryption) - a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen. BitLocker is full disk encryption software. More info:

Device Encryption/ BitLocker was activated by someone and during the PC activation time it prompts the user to save/store the key in a safe place.

** If this is a company owned asset/tablet, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key

** If this is your own personal device, and if you are not aware of Bitlocker key, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Probably your key is stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :

Please, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it.

You should get the key from OneDrive and use to unlock your computer

Try these and let me know if you manage to find the key *and* use it
