Hi @Gianp23,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand what you’re trying to do: erase all data from your HP Victus laptop, but the message about “insert a unit” means Windows is asking for installation media (USB or recovery drive) to complete the reset.
Here’s the way to wipe your laptop clean:
Recommended Methods to Erase All Data
Option 1: Use Windows Reset (No USB Required if OS is intact)
- Go to Settings → System → Recovery.
- Under Reset this PC, click Get started.
- Choose Remove everything.
- Select Cloud download or Local reinstall.
- Cloud downloads need the internet.
- Local reinstall uses existing files.
- Follow the on-screen steps.
Option 2: Use HP Recovery Environment
- Turn off your laptop.
- Power on and press F11 repeatedly until HP Recovery Manager opens.
- Select System Recovery → Remove everything and reinstall Windows.
- Follow prompts.
Option 3: If Windows Is Corrupted
- You’ll need a Windows 11 installation USB:
- Download from Microsoft:
👉 HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
- Download from Microsoft:
Boot from USB → Choose Custom Install → Delete all partitions → Install fresh.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
