Hi @Mitch_Christy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Chromebook is behaving as if it's in demo mode, you may want to try the following steps to resolve the issue.
Restart the Chromebook: Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve software glitches. Turn off your Chromebook and then turn it back on.
Check Accessibility Settings: It's possible that some accessibility features are enabled, causing the highlighting behavior. To check and disable these features:
- Open the Settings menu.
- Go to "Advanced" or "Accessibility."
- Look for any features related to highlighting or demo mode and disable them.
Powerwash (Factory Reset): If the issue persists, you may need to perform a Powerwash, which is a factory reset for Chromebooks. Keep in mind that this will erase all local data on the Chromebook. To perform a Powerwash:
- Open the Settings menu.
- Scroll down to "Advanced" and then click on "Reset settings."
- Click "Powerwash" and then "Restart."
Update Chrome OS: Ensure that your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Updates may include bug fixes that can resolve the issue.
- Open the Settings menu.
- Go to "About Chrome OS."
- Click on "Check for updates" and install any available updates.
Remember to back up any important data before performing a Powerwash or factory reset, as it will erase all local data on the Chromebook.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
