How to update the BIOS for unsupported laptop?

Hi All,

I'm attempting BIOS recovery on an HP 15-p074TX (Windows 10). HP ftp used to allow direct downloads, but browsing is disabled.

Could anyone share the exact working URL (e.g., …/spXXXXXX/sp100496.exe) for this SoftPaq? A copy of the file via mirror or archive is also greatly appreciated.

You're very welcome.

You have to first find the file on a 3rd party website by doing a search and hope you get lucky.

Of course, you can use the file from the site but if you want to use the official HP downloads then you have to know this general rule of thumb.

All HP driver files are arranged in groups of 500 going from 001 -500 and from 501 - 000

So, I found the driver on this third party website:

Download HP Pavilion 15-p000 BIOS F.57 for Windows 10 64 bit | Softpedia

As you can see, the file number is sp92961.

Find any HP driver either on this forum or on a PC's support page and modify the link according to the info I posted above.

For example, if I pick a random file from a HP notebook, let's take this one:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98001-98500/sp98266.exe

I use notepad to edit the link.

So, in order to download the sp92961 file for it to download from the FTP site, you modify the above link as follows:

Change the sp98001 to sp92501 and the 98500 to 93000, then change the 98266 to 92961 because that number falls between 92501 and 93000

If you want to find the info file, change the exe to html

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp92501-93000/sp92961.exe

It takes less time to do it than to explain it.
