Hi @Larry632,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY x360 laptop is stuck in an automatic repair loop after disabling the Windows Event Log service, Windows is likely unable to boot properly due to missing system logs or dependencies.

Let’s walk through a recovery plan to get your system back up and running.

Step-by-Step Fix for Automatic Repair Loop (After Disabling Event Log)

1. Boot into Advanced Startup Options

Try forcing Windows into recovery mode:

  • Power on your laptop and force shut it down as soon as the HP logo appears.
  • Repeat this 3 times.
  • On the 4th boot, Windows should enter Advanced Startup Options.

If successful, you’ll see options like:

  • Startup Repair
  • System Restore
  • Command Prompt
  • Startup Settings

2. Enable Event Log via Command Prompt

If you can access Command Prompt from the recovery menu:

  1. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt
  2. Type the following commands: sc config eventlog start= auto
                                                            net start eventlog
  3. This re-enables the Windows Event Log service.
  4. Type exit and restart your PC.

3. Use System Restore (if available)

If enabling the Event Log doesn’t help:

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore
  • Choose a restore point before the service was disabled

4. Boot into Safe Mode

If System Restore isn’t available:

  • Go to Startup Settings > Restart
  • Press F4 or F5 to boot into Safe Mode

Once in Safe Mode:

  • Re-enable the Event Log service via services.msc
  • Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt to check for system file corruption

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
