Hi everybody,

I had my HP laptops for a little over one year now. After I had installed a photo editing program on it, my laptop started acting up, I ran a scan in the administrator and it had detected a corrupted file. In attempt to delete it, it crashed and had been crashing since then. I had factory reset it and now it doesn’t even let me get past the set up anymore. It just keeps crashing. I‘m at my wits end.

Hi @AsCaUr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can truly understand how frustrating and exhausting it must feel when your laptop keeps crashing, especially after you've tried everything you could. You're not alone in this, and we're here to help you get back on track.

Based on what you've described, the crashes after installing a photo editing program, detection of a corrupted file, and now setup failure even after a factory reset, it sounds like your system may have deeper software or hardware-level issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and forces a full system scan:

  • Disconnect all peripherals (except keyboard/mouse).
  • Unplug the AC adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and turn on the laptop.

2. Disable Automatic Restart to View Error Messages

This helps you see the actual error instead of the system just rebooting:

  • Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Startup and Recovery.
  • Uncheck "Automatically restart" under System failure.

3. Try Microsoft System Restore

If the issue started recently, restoring to a previous point might help:

  • Turn on the laptop and press F11 repeatedly to enter recovery.
  • Choose System Restore and follow the prompts.

4. Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or drivers can cause instability:

  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for updates.
  • Or visit HP’s Software and Driver Downloads page and enter your laptop model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
