Recently, my Hp pavilion dv1000's hard drive died. I know this is an old laptop but i'm giving it to my son. I am planning to buy a new hard drive online, but the problem is, I don't know it's connector. If it helps, the hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar HTS541010G9SA00 at 80GB with 5400 RPM. I read the sticker on the hard drive and it says SATA, but it's a different kind of SATA than 2.5, and it doesn't specify what type of SATA it is. Please, tell me what kind of SATA this hard drive has, PLEASE. I would even pay you how much the hard drive is worth to get a new one or recover it. Please, my son really needs a laptop for school and because he deserved it.

2.5 means the width of the drive-not the SATA type. All SATA drives use same connector. The hdd in your dv1000 probably has a plastic jumper on the connector pins which you will pull off to use on a replacement hdd. Other than that, i am not sure what you are looking for.
The main difference in SATA drives is speed. Yours is SATA-1= 1.5 Gbit/s but you can also use SATA-2 = 3 Gbit/s.

It is the earliest form of SATA hdd:

Example that will work:

Thanks, but the newegg link was for a SATA 2.5 hdd, and all I find is SATA 2.5 when I search something like "First SATA hard drive connector" or "First form of SATA". Can you try giving me another link or telling me what that type of SATA was called exactly? Thanks.

You're welcome. Don't lose that jumper-you will need it for new drive.
