Hp Pavilion Dv6
Microsoft Windows Vista

Recently I pulled out a older Hp Pavilion that my younger brother had stepped on. The screen will not turn on, and whenever I press the power button (has to be plugged into charger) the power button, power indicator and disk leds (on side of computer next to charger) light up every 5 seconds. The power button and indicator light up white, and the disk orange. I took of the keyboard and saw that there was no visable damage to the motherboard. I tried hard resetting, taking out a small battery through the service panel, taking out the hard drive and replacing it, taking out the rams (in every order). Everything just leads back to the blinking lights. From my guesses the motherboard itself has an internal damage, but of theres anythign else I can try that would be great. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand the HP Pavilion Power Lights are Blinking & the Display (Screen) Is Black,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

What's the status of the lights on the capslock & the sequence of the blinks on the power button? (that should help identify the issue).

Did it stop working immediately after your brother stepped on it? or did it continue to work for a while?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

If the computer suddenly fails to startup properly, perform a hard reset as the first action. Performing the hard reset will correct many problems. If the computer still does not start properly, Select your symptom from the list below to guide you to the recommended corrective actions.

  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards.

  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all residual power and restore default startup settings.

       NOTE:

If your computer has a sealed battery that cannot be removed, then perform a forced reset as shown in the HP support document, Use a Forced Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues on Notebook with a Sealed Non-Removable B....

  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not insert the battery), press the Power button, look for glowing lights near the caps lock and num lock keys, and listen for sounds of a fan or other moving parts turning.

If the computer starts normally after performing a hard reset, you are done troubleshooting. Otherwise, select the symptom below that best describes your issue and perform the troubleshooting steps provided:
