HP Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am helping a client deal with a damaged hard disk from an HP Pro laptop, which is almost definitely out of warranty. However, we need to install a new hard disk. Once that is done, I would like to be able to restore from the original system images that came with the laptop (over 5 years ago now).

Is it at all possible to order these from HP? And what might be the cost? They would need to include a licensed copy of Windows 10. What information would HP to supply me with this disk?

Hi:

What is the product number of the notebook?

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Please do not post the serial number.

HI Paul,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post! OK, so I couldn't see the product number anywhere on the FASCIA of laptop. I did wonder if I could find it in the BIOS? But, it turned out that I did not need to do this. I was able to format the C:\ drive from Windows recovery command prompt. Having checked the drive was now passing its dst (previously it was failing), I was able to run the HP recovery from the (Uncorrupted) HP recovery partition. So far Windows has been restored to factory setting successfully. (Oh yeah, before doing any of this, I had restored the client's online backup to a spare laptop! - So no risk of data loss when formatting C: drive.

So now OK, don't need the disk. For future reference it would be very good to know the process for getting the disk if I do need it, and where to find the product number if it is not visible anywhere on the laptop fascia.

Best wishes,

Paul

Hi:

The product number should be in the BIOS (system information screen), if there is no serial number/product number label.

In the USA/Canada, for business PC's the number to order recovery media is:  1-800-334-5144
