I got the same issue on my 11 G6 EE, the memory retrain method cannot solve, and 90% of the time it showed the Chrome OS is missing message, but I found a workaround.
Keep pressing and releasing on the power button for around 10 times, it will boot then, after booting up, it works normally until next power off. I am sure it is something wrong in the coreboot or firmware but not the hardware itself.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
I see that your experiencing issue with Chrome OS and getting an error message "Chrome OS is missing"
If your computer displays the error message Chrome OS is missing or damaged, you might need to perform a system recovery.
Firstly let's perform Powerwash:
Note: A factory reset erases all the information on your Chromebook's hard drive, including all the files in the Downloads folder. (Before you reset, make sure to back up your files)
Steps to perform Powerwash:
- Sign out of your Chromebook.
- Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
- Select Restart.
- In the box that appears, select Powerwash Continue.
- Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.
Here is the step to Reset your Chromebook to factory settings: Click Here

Tried all methods found here and on internet including recovery, powerwash and memory retrain, cannot solve the issue, I am sure there is a bug in the bootloader causing this behaviour, looks like my repeated tapping on the power button did the magic and bypassed / changed something during bootloader and started the OS correctly.
Hope this will be fixed in further release.

Thank you for posting.
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. That's a good trick "tapping on the power button " fixed the issue.
Thanks for taking the time to provide me with this response. Is there anything else I can help you with the answer?
Keep me posted for further assistance.
