Hi @Lennyboy2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 14-cf2000 Laptop PC is showing an error code 0xC00404 while trying to create HP Cloud Recovery, even after using multiple USB drives. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check USB Drive Compatibility

Use a 16GB–64GB USB 3.0 drive formatted in FAT32 or NTFS.

Avoid drives larger than 128GB or those with multiple partitions, as the tool may fail to recognize them properly.

Run HP Cloud Recovery as Administrator

Right-click on the HP Cloud Recovery Tool icon and choose Run as Administrator.

This ensures the tool has full permission to write recovery data to your USB drive.

Temporarily Disable Antivirus or Firewall

Security software can sometimes block the tool from downloading recovery files.

Temporarily turn off antivirus/firewall and re-run the recovery process.

Re-enable protection once the download is complete.

Check Internet Stability

The Cloud Recovery Tool requires a stable and uninterrupted connection.

Try connecting your laptop directly via Ethernet cable or move closer to your router if on Wi-Fi.

Clear HP Cloud Recovery Cache Files

Press Windows + R, type %temp%, and press Enter.

Delete all temporary files in that folder, then restart your laptop and try running the tool again.

Use the Latest Version of the HP Cloud Recovery Tool

Download the latest version directly from HP’s support page before attempting again.

Outdated versions can sometimes cause this download error.

I hope this helps.
