My grandson, who is severely disabled and relies heavily on his notebook has had a problem booting up from his hard drive get the dreaded bootmgr missing. I have tried to perform a system restore from the windows image, but this fails. I have tried to access the c: drive through the command prompt but it says it is unreadable or corrupt. So it looks like a new hard drive ans OS is required
I have been on the windows web site to download a windows 7 image but it says that the verification code I have is an OEM version and therefore will not supply. How do I get an OS image without paying out for a full version. Can i copy the windows directory from the x drive onto the new drive and restore from there.

If you are willing to use Windows 10, a Windows 7 key will activate Windows 10.
I bought a used laptop on eBay recently. Put in a hard drive. Did a clean installation of Windows 10. Connected to router with Ethernet cable. Activated Windows 10 with key on the label on the bottom of the laptop.
