Hi @Ashadmccloud181,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out! The error message, “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error “, usually appears during or after a failed Windows installation or update. It prevents the system from booting properly and can loop indefinitely unless fixed.
Here's How to Fix It
1. Use the Shift + F10 Method (Command Prompt Fix)
- When the error message appears, press Shift + F10 on your keyboard.
- This opens Command Prompt.
- In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press Enter: regedit
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\ChildCompletion
- On the right side, double-click the entry named setup.exe.
- Change the Value data from 1 to 3, then click OK.
- Close the Registry Editor and Command Prompt.
- Click OK on the error message to restart your computer.
If That Doesn’t Work
Option 1: Perform a Startup Repair
- Boot from a Windows 11 installation USB.
- Select Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Startup Repair.
Option 2: Reset the PC
- From the same recovery menu, choose:
- Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Keep my files
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
