HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000 (4V9X9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

had the laptop a month. Seems to be using battery when it's turned off.  I am making sure it shuts down properly.

Turned it off last night at 100%. Turned it on today at 80%.

Hi @Sarah440,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your laptop might be experiencing some power management issues. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Check Power Settings: Make sure your laptop's power settings are configured correctly. You can adjust these settings by going to Control Panel > Power Options (on Windows) or System Preferences > Energy Saver (on macOS).
  • Update Drivers: Ensure that all your laptop's drivers, especially those related to power management, are up to date. You can usually find driver updates on the HP website.
  • Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, certain background processes or applications can drain battery power even when the laptop is turned off. Check Task Manager (on Windows) or Activity Monitor (on macOS) to see if any processes are consuming power.
  • Disable Wake-on-LAN: If your laptop supports Wake-on-LAN, it may be waking up from sleep mode due to network activity. Disable this feature in your BIOS settings.
  • Reset BIOS Settings: Resetting your laptop's BIOS settings to default may resolve any power management issues caused by misconfigurations.
  • Battery Calibration: Sometimes, calibrating your laptop's battery can help improve its accuracy in reporting battery levels. This involves fully charging and then fully discharging the battery.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
