Hi @ÍRØÑSÎDÉ

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when you’re blocked by the User Account Control prompt and cannot move forward with updates or troubleshooting. Thank you for checking the settings already—that effort is appreciated.

Let’s carefully go through the situation so you can regain control of your notebook.

Why You’re Seeing This

On your HP Pavilion notebook, Windows is asking for administrator approval. If the system was set up with a standard account only, you won’t see the “Yes” option because there is no administrator account linked to your profile. This is why you’re unable to change UAC settings or proceed with updates.

Step 1: Check Account Type

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Accounts > Your info.
  • Look under your account name. If it says Standard user, you don’t have administrator rights.

Step 2: Sign In With Administrator Account

  • Restart the notebook.
  • On the login screen, check if another account is listed.
  • If you see one, sign in with that account—it may have administrator rights.

Step 3: Create or Enable Administrator Account

If no administrator account is visible, you’ll need to enable one:

  • Restart the notebook and press F11 to enter HP Recovery Environment.
  • From there, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  • At the prompt, type:net user administrator /active:yes
  • Restart the notebook. You should now see an Administrator account on the login screen. Sign in with it and set a password.

Step 4: Adjust UAC Settings

Once signed in as administrator:

  • Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings.
  • Move the slider to your preferred level.
  • Click OK and restart the notebook.

Step 5: Confirm

  • Try running Windows Update again.
  • The UAC prompt should now display the Yes option.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to restore administrator access and adjust UAC settings so updates and troubleshooting can proceed smoothly.

Hi @ÍRØÑSÎDÉ

Thank you for trying that already, it helps narrow down what’s happening.

Here are alternative methods you can use to enable or access an administrator account without relying on F11:

Method 1: Use Windows Recovery from Settings

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Recovery.
  3. Under Advanced startup, click Restart now.
  4. When the recovery menu appears, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  5. In Command Prompt, type:net user administrator /active:yes
  6. Restart your notebook. You should now see an Administrator account on the login screen.

Method 2: Use Shift + Restart

  1. Hold down the Shift key while clicking Restart from the Start menu.
  2. This will boot into the recovery environment.
  3. From there, follow the same path: Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  4. Run the same command to enable the hidden Administrator account.

Method 3: Bootable Media

If neither of the above works:

  • Create a Windows 11 installation USB using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool.
  • Boot from the USB and select Repair your computer instead of Install.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  • Run the same net user administrator /active:yes command.

Thanks for getting back to us @ÍRØÑSÎDÉ

Thank you for sharing the screenshot—it confirms that you’ve reached the recovery Command Prompt successfully, which is a great step forward. I understand how frustrating it feels when the command doesn’t seem to work, especially when you're trying to regain control of your system. Let’s go through the correct steps carefully and clearly.

Step-by-Step: Enable the Built-in Administrator Account

At the Command Prompt, type the following command exactly as shown:

net user administrator /active:yes

Press Enter.

  • You should see a message: “The command completed successfully.”
  • If you see an error, double-check the spelling. It must be administrator (not administration).

Set a Password for the Administrator Account (Optional but Recommended):

  • Type this command to assign a password:

net user administrator *

Press Enter.

  • You’ll be prompted to enter a password. Type a secure password (you won’t see it as you type).
  • Press Enter again to confirm.

Restart the Laptop:

  • Close the Command Prompt window.
  • Choose “Continue” to exit and boot into Windows.
  • On the login screen, you should now see a new account named Administrator.

Next Steps After Login

Once you log in to the Administrator account:

  • Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings
  • Move the slider to your preferred level and click OK
  • Try running Windows Update or any troubleshooting tool again—the “Yes” option should now appear

If the Administrator account still doesn’t show up after reboot, let me know and I’ll guide you through checking whether the account is disabled or hidden due to system policies.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
