Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello

I bought a laptop off my friend and it turned off while it was being reset. This caused some type of loop which I researched and found a solution to, but it just caused a new problem. Now I’m stuck in the dreaded 64 loop. Found out it was because my os got wiped in the process so now it has nothing to boot from. Purchased windows 10 home today and went to boot from it but I cannot choose usb as my boot option. This has been a problem for a half a year already. Please help. I’m trying to go back to school and that’s a little hard to do without a computer... 😞

Thanks
Carin

You didn't need to purchase a new Windows 10. The license key for the OS is stored in BIOS and Microsoft offers the free Media Creation Tool to make a usb flash drive with Windows 10. I guess it is too late to get a refund-usually once it is opened they won't accept returns.

Now- on to the problem. Are you following the process of tapping away on the Esc key after powering on to access the start menu where you tap F9 to choose boot device?

I don’t have the key for it. 😕 yes I am. I’m pressing Esc repeatedly once it turns on. If I go into bios setup and into the tab System Configuration down to Boot Options there is a section called UEFI Boot Order. There’s an arrow next to OS Boot Manager. There is also: Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive, USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk, USB CD/DVD ROM Drive, and Network Adapter with an exclamation point next to it meaning that the boot capability for it is disabled. However, I cannot do anything with any of these options except the OS Boot Manager. Selecting this simply pulls up a small window that says

OS Boot Manager
Windows Boot Manager (TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100)
Press F10 to Save or ESC to Cancel

(Windows Boot Manager is highlighted and the only thing I can do anything with and it still seems to do nothing.)

Even if I switch to Legacy I cannot select any of the options listed.

At the Startup Menu I can also choose F9 for Boot Device Options. This gives me the options to choose from OS Boot Manager (UEFI), USB Hard Drive (UEFI), and Boot from EFI File. When I choose USB it prompts me to choose between 32 and 64 bit. I choose 64 and it gives me a screen that says Loading files with a progress bar. Once the bar finishes loading it goes to the Hp screen with the loading circle. It seems to restart then goes to the Ho screen again with the loading circle. Then it says preparing and switches to the installing screen and immediately jumps back to 64% progress, restarts, and loops 😞

1-As I said in first reply- Your key is stored in BIOS.

2-As I said in first reply-tap Esc, tap F9 ,select USB. No need to enter BIOS setup.

3-Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. At the menu where F2 System Diagnostics is an option. Tap F2 key and run the tests.
