Hi @Coachman60,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing your laptop. Here are a few steps you can try to regain access, depending on the operating system you're using:

For Windows

1. Use Safe Mode to Access the Hidden Administrator Account (Windows 7/8/10)

  1. Restart your computer and start tapping the F8 key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  2. Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
  3. Once in Safe Mode, you might see an Administrator account. If you do, click on it and log in (often, there's no password).
  4. Once logged in, go to Control Panel > User Accounts and change your password.

2. Use Password Reset Disk (Windows 7/8/10/11)

If you created a password reset disk before you forgot your password:

  1. Insert the password reset disk.
  2. On the login screen, click Reset password.
  3. Follow the instructions to reset your password.

3. Use a Windows Installation Disk

If you have access to a Windows installation disk or USB:

Insert the installation media and boot from it.

Choose Repair your computer.

Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.

In Command Prompt, type the following commands:

Restart your computer.

On the login screen, press the Shift key 5 times. This should open Command Prompt.

In Command Prompt, type:

shell

copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe

Replace yourusername with your actual username and newpassword with your new password.

Restart your computer and log in with the new password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
