Hi @Coachman60,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing your laptop. Here are a few steps you can try to regain access, depending on the operating system you're using:
For Windows
1. Use Safe Mode to Access the Hidden Administrator Account (Windows 7/8/10)
- Restart your computer and start tapping the F8 key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
- Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
- Once in Safe Mode, you might see an Administrator account. If you do, click on it and log in (often, there's no password).
- Once logged in, go to Control Panel > User Accounts and change your password.
2. Use Password Reset Disk (Windows 7/8/10/11)
If you created a password reset disk before you forgot your password:
- Insert the password reset disk.
- On the login screen, click Reset password.
- Follow the instructions to reset your password.
3. Use a Windows Installation Disk
If you have access to a Windows installation disk or USB:
Insert the installation media and boot from it.
Choose Repair your computer.
Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
In Command Prompt, type the following commands:
Restart your computer.
On the login screen, press the Shift key 5 times. This should open Command Prompt.
In Command Prompt, type:
shell
Copy code
copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe
Replace yourusername with your actual username and newpassword with your new password.
Restart your computer and log in with the new password.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
