After I turn the power on, I saw a message saying "Preparing Automatic Repair", then I saw the message
"Diagnosing your PC". After that, I saw the message "Automatic Repair could not repair your PC". Then I tried
the advanced options including resetting the PC, but none of them resolved the issue. Can anybody help on
this? How can I obtain the recovery tool for my laptop? I did not have a DVD system backup when I purchased
the unit.
I tried to run "HP Cloud Recovery Tool" but I couldn't open it even after I right clicked on it and chose "Run as Administrator".

Hi @Emmy_Laptop,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with a serious boot issue on your Windows laptop. The error code 0xc0000225 usually indicates a problem with the boot configuration or a missing boot file. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you recover your system and obtain the necessary recovery tools:
1. Create a Windows Installation Media
Since you can't boot into Windows and the HP Cloud Recovery Tool isn’t working, you can create a bootable Windows installation media using another computer:
- On a working computer, go to the Microsoft Windows 10 download page or Windows 11 download page and download the Media Creation Tool.
- Run the Media Creation Tool and select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.
- Follow the prompts to create a bootable USB drive. You'll need an empty USB drive with at least 8 GB of space.
2. Boot from the USB Drive
- Insert the bootable USB drive into your laptop.
- Restart your laptop and immediately press the key to enter the boot menu. This key is often , F10.
- In the boot menu, select the USB drive as the boot device.
3. Use the Windows Recovery Environment
Once you boot from the USB drive:
- Choose your language and other preferences, then click Next.:
- On the next screen, instead of installing Windows, click Repair your computer.:
- In the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
- You’ll see options like Startup Repair, System Restore, Command Prompt, etc.
4. Perform Repair Operations
- Try Startup Repair first. This will attempt to automatically fix issues preventing Windows from starting.
- If Startup Repair doesn’t work, you can use the Command Prompt to manually repair the boot configuration. Try the following commands:
- These commands can fix common boot issues. After running them, restart your laptop to see if the problem is resolved.
- If you have restore points set up, you might be able to use System Restore to revert to a previous state before the issue occurred.
5. Reinstall Windows
If none of the repair options work and you don’t have a backup, you may need to reinstall Windows:
- Go back to the Windows installation screen from the USB drive.
- Choose Install now and follow the prompts to perform a fresh installation. This will erase your data, so if you have important files, you might need to access your hard drive using a live USB environment or another method before proceeding.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
