Hi @Dnsrr

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

HP locks Advanced Mode BIOS settings on basic laptop models like the Pavilion 15-bc412nt, meaning RAM speed adjustments aren't accessible. This restriction is common across non-gaming and non-workstation HP laptops, preventing manual overclocking or frequency tweaks.

Ways to Improve RAM Performance Without BIOS Access

Upgrade to Faster RAM Modules

  • If your motherboard supports higher-speed RAM, replacing your existing sticks with higher-frequency modules (e.g., 2666MHz or 3200MHz) can help.
  • HP laptops typically adjust RAM speed automatically based on compatibility.

Enable XMP (If Available)

  • Although XMP profiles are usually locked in BIOS on Pavilion models, you can check in Task Manager → Performance → Memory to see if your RAM is running at its max rated speed.
  • If it’s underclocked, some laptops adjust via motherboard settings rather than BIOS.

Optimize Windows for Better RAM Efficiency

  • Disable unnecessary startup programs (Win + X → Task Manager → Startup).
  • Increase Virtual Memory (Page File) under System Settings → Performance Options → Advanced.

Clean RAM Contacts & Slots

  • If your laptop has removable RAM, reseat the sticks and gently clean the gold contacts to ensure proper connection.

Upgrade to Dual-Channel Memory

  • If you're running single-channel RAM, adding a second matching module can improve performance significantly.

Since BIOS modifications aren’t an option, hardware upgrades or system optimizations will be the best route for increasing RAM efficiency. Let me know if you need help finding compatible upgrades!

@Dnsrr

You are Welcome!

That sounds frustrating! If your PC started acting strangely after accessing the BIOS and your disk is no longer visible, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your PC and enter the BIOS again.
  • Look for Boot Order or Storage Configuration.
  • Ensure your hard drive is listed and set as the primary boot device.

2. Reset BIOS to Default

  • If settings were accidentally changed, reset the BIOS to default.
  • In BIOS, find the Reset to Default or Load Optimized Defaults option.

3. Check Disk Management in Windows

  • If Windows boots but doesn’t show the disk, open Disk Management:
    • Press Win + X and select Disk Management.
    • Look for your drive—if it appears but has no letter, assign one.

4. Rebuild MBR (Master Boot Record)

  • If the disk is detected but not accessible, the MBR might be corrupted.
  • Boot into Windows Recovery Mode and use Command Prompt:bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd

5. BIOS Update Issues

  • If this happened after a BIOS update, some settings might have changed.
  • Check your motherboard’s official website for BIOS rollback instructions.

Let me know if you need more guidance! 🚀
