I cracked my touchscreen 2 weeks ago and it was working fine but without the touch capabilities. Two days ago I restarted with updates and now it will only go to the blue error screen then I get the advanced options.. What should I do to get into my desktop again? Thanks! Nicholas

Hi @NicholasB2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry to hear about your cracked touchscreen and the blue error screen after the update. It’s a tough situation, especially when you just want to get back to your desktop.

Let’s walk through the steps to help you boot back into Windows safely.

Step-by-Step Recovery Guide

1. Use “Startup Repair” from Advanced Options

Since you’re seeing the blue screen with Advanced Options, try this first:

  1. Click Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair
  2. Select your account and enter your password if prompted.
  3. Let Windows attempt to fix boot issues.

2. Boot into Safe Mode

If Startup Repair doesn’t work:

  1. Go to Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings
  2. Click Restart
  3. When the menu appears, press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode

If you can boot into Safe Mode:

  • Back up your important files immediately.
  • Uninstall any recent updates or drivers that may have caused the issue.

3. System Restore (if available)

If Safe Mode doesn’t work:

  1. Go to Advanced Options > System Restore
  2. Choose a restore point from before the update
  3. Follow the prompts to restore your system

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
