I erased partitions assuming that re-install windows 10 would format / reset partitions - it didn't...

So NOW, I'm simply trying to find some way to re-format the hard drive, so HP Stream will recognize the base C: drive so it will boot, and be able to re-install windows 10 with the latest / greatest update...

a) yes I have the latest windows 64 bit with all the updates ready on a flash drive...that boots up...but no C:\ drive recognized so cant install

Sorry, but what you're saying does not make sense.

I've installed Win10 numerous times on PCs and if the drive is blank, it DOES format the drive with the partitions needed.

If the drive is not blank, then it should provide a window showing the partitions and letting you decide which one to reformat and install Win10 to.

On the step above where you said “provide a window to select partition to install to”... that was the part where I was trying to max out the size of the one partition (at first there were 5 partitions) .... and I wound up deleting ALL the partitions.   

so on boot up now ... “no boot disk exists” error kicks up.   And I need some way to install a new solitary partition prior to installing windows.  The win10 installer can’t partition a drive cause it can’t find the drive (lacking a boot partition)

Update - downloaded the  HP Cloud recovery tool.

Installed the tool onto a separate PC

Ran the tool software as administrator

Entered in the EXACT product number for my HP Stream 14" axooo Laptop PC

Stated (only saw this briefly - downloaded the Windows 10C version - supposedly the exact software package installed on drive in the first place....

Installed the recovery media onto 28GB flash drive

Placed the recovery media flash drive into the problematic HP Stream laptop

FAILURE

The ERROR message on my HP stream after trying to run the HP Cloud recovery tool was:""

"This computer is NOT supported by the System Recovery Media.  You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these Media.  

Error:

0100-82BD-8423

0122-0-1"

Again, this software was ... by the HP softwares own description - was detailed and exactly for this laptop, and should have been the exact software installed ONTO the laptop in the factory as it was built.

I read what you said, but that's not my experience as the Windows install media is designed to work with blank drives -- ones without boot partitions.  It does not need a boot partition because it creates its own if the drive is blank.

From your messages, it sounds like the PC is trying to boot from the hard drive, not the install media -- and of course, that will fail without a boot partition or boot loader files inside an OS partition.

If your PC will not boot from the install media, then you need to consider downloading it again on another PC and creating new Windows install media and seeing if that will work.

lol - tech support HP wants to charge me $49.99 for service call - charged up front, with no guarantee of success.  

ALL I need - is software smart enough and specific enough to this laptop.  Something to recognize the uniqueness of an HP Stream Laptop 14-ax0xx

- something to recognize the specific driver for the 32gb eemc(?) flash/hard drive

-and place 1 single solitary partition on it so that I can re-install windows.

1) I have a full windows 10 64 bit flash USB ready to go...if It could find a drive to install to (partition needed)

2) I have the HP specific cloud recovery install tool placed on a USB flash drive...if It could find a drive to install to (partition needed)

Thoughts anyone?  Thanks in advance...

To conclude - I now have a wonderfully working Ubuntu laptop.

Tried and retried the HP cloud recovery concept - continued errors "this laptop cannot be repaired with this software" (sic - specifically designed to repair this laptop).

Tried and retried windows 10 install - "need to install hard drive first".

Long story short - used a Linux repair disk to diagnose and repair the disk, and wound up stopping at the first success.  Rescatux was successful at seeing the drive (empty of all partitions), giving me the opportunity to create a partition....  I tried at this point AGAIN, to re-install windows 10, but still didn't recognize that the HP Stream device had a hard drive.  SO, I installed a full version of Ubuntu.  Successfully the first time.  And was pleased with result so stopped.

Maybe, I could have setup a 'different' partition.  The HP Stream bios is STILL in legacy boot mode - but works.

MAYBE, I needed to reformat the drive in a different way first (so I can turn off legacy boot), then place partition.

BUT, UBUNTU has all that HP stream offered - a simple browsing laptop, with email, and UBUNTU has the Libre system of Office like products that dont need re-activating (HP stream was over 1 year old so word, excel etc stopped working).  So I stopped.  

Thanks for all the suggestions and help.  Hope this helps someone and doesn't violate any policies, BUT, simply being honest with what I had to do to get my HP Stream functional again.  Thanks again.
